DePaul Downs Maryland, 76-67
Aneesah Morrow scored 22 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as DePaul defeated Maryland, 76-67, in the inaugural game of the Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off on Friday afternoon.
Morrow also hauled in 10 rebounds to earn her third double-double of the season and was one of three Blue Demons to record double-doubles in the contest. Keke Rimmer had 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Jorie Allen contributed 10 points and 13 rebounds. Kendall Holmes poured in 17 points and Darrione Rogers dished out nine assists.
Five Terrapins scored in double figures for Maryland, led by Shyanne Sellers’ 13. Faith Marsonius finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.
DePaul led 35-27 at halftime, limiting Maryland to just 26 percent shooting from the field. Morrow had 11 points in the half, while Rimmer and Holmes each contributed eight.
A Gia Cooke layup capped a 10-0 run to give Maryland a 45-44 lead with 44 seconds left in the third quarter, but a 3-point play by Morrow gave DePaul the lead right back, 47-45, heading into the fourth quarter. From there, the Blue Demons outscored the Terrapins 29-22 in the final frame to secure the victory.
Both teams return to action Saturday for day two of the Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off. Maryland will face Towson at 11:30 am ET, while DePaul matches up against Pitt at 2 pm.
