Second-Half Surge Leads DePaul Over Pitt
The trio of Aneesah Morrow, Kendall Holmes and Darrione Rogers led DePaul to a huge second half performance to defeat Pitt 74-59 at the Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off on Saturday afternoon.
Morrow scored 19 of her 23 points in the first half and finished with 16 rebounds to earn the double-double, while also recording five steals. Holmes shot lights-out – 5-of-6 from three and 7-of-8 overall – for 21 points alongside five rebounds, and Rogers had 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the contest.
Eleven players registered points for Pitt, led by Gabby Hutcherson with 10 and Aislin Malcolm with nine. Liatu King hauled in 14 rebounds to go with six points.
After Pitt led 19-17 after the first quarter, DePaul went on a 7-2 spurt late in the half and headed into the break up 31-30. Morrow was nearly unstoppable with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting, five rebounds and three steals over the first 20 minutes.
The Blue Demons began the second half on a 10-2 run to go quickly go up 41-32, eventually outscoring the Panthers 22-12 in the third quarter and building an 11-point advantage heading into the final frame. Holmes and Rogers scored all 21 of DePaul’s points in the fourth quarter to close out the game.
Pitt wraps things up at the Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off against Maryland at 11:30 am ET on Sunday, while DePaul battles Towson at 2:00 pm. Both games will be streamed live on FSWBucs.com/FSWBucsLive.
