Towson Knocks Off DePaul in Tip-Off Finale
Kylie Kornegay-Lucas highlighted a balanced scoring effort as Towson knocked off DePaul, 64-56, in each team’s finale at the Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off on Sunday afternoon.
Four Tigers scored double-digit points, led by Kornegay-Lucas’ 17. She also registered eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team. Quinzia Fulmore had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Anissa Rivera tallied 11 points, and India Johnston added 10.
Aneesah Morrow recorded her third double-double in as many days with 16 points and 16 rebounds for DePaul and was named Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off MVP following the game. The Chicago native averaged 20.3 points and 14 rebounds in three games for the Blue Demons.
It was a tightly contested first half, featuring four lead changes and six ties. Morrow had six points and eight rebounds for DePaul, while Towson got five points from Rivera and four points from four different players. The teams were tied at 11 after the first quarter and at 25 at halftime.
Towson held DePaul to nine points and finished the third quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 44-34 heading into the final frame. Kornegay-Lucas then opened the fourth quarter with a three-point play, extending the Tigers’ lead to 13. A barrage of 3-pointers by Kendall Holmes, Jorie Allen and Darrione Rogers gave DePaul life, but Towson went 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the frame to secure the win.
